In my last post, I told you about Habit Stacking, which is basically flipping off New Year’s resolutions, because let’s be honest, resolutions usually don’t work. They’re vague, unrealistic, and tend to collapse by February, right around the time your hormones remind you who’s really in charge.

So don’t hate me, but this time I’m actually going to give you some “resolutions” to aim for. I know. Totally hypocritical. Stay with me. These aren’t the usual lose weight, exercise more, sleep better promises that make you feel motivated for three days and defeated for the rest of the year. These are simple, actionable reset points; things you can actually do if you’re struggling with health issues and want to get to the root cause instead of chasing symptoms. Think of them less as resolutions and more as strategic pivots.

Let’s call them “Reclaims.”

Reclaim 1: Make the Most Important Phone Call of 2026

If you do one thing for your health this year, make this call: (402) 379-9600. That’s the Diabetes & Wellness Clinic in Norfolk, NE, where I see my functional medicine patients. This call matters because most women spend years trying to fix symptoms in isolation—fatigue, weight gain, hot flashes, poor sleep, joint pain—without ever stepping back to ask why those symptoms are happening in the first place.

Functional medicine isn’t about guessing or throwing supplements at the wall. It’s about investigating root causes: blood sugar dysregulation, hormone imbalance, nutrient deficiencies, gut issues, chronic inflammation, stress overload. That phone call is the moment you stop trying to manage everything alone and start working with someone who can connect the dots.

Reclaim 2: (Say this like Dr. Evil) “Laser”

Want to lose weight but exercise feels miserable because of pain, stiffness, or sheer burnout? Or maybe you just don’t love working out? Well, then, I have an option that doesn’t involve suffering. Emerald Laser therapy. This is non-surgical, low-risk laser therapy designed to target stubborn, localized fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. It’s not a solution for generalized obesity, and it’s not magic, but it is a powerful tool when used appropriately.

The Emerald Laser works for a wide range of body types and can target areas like the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and arms. There’s no anesthesia, no downtime, and sessions are comfortable enough to fit into your day. For many women, reducing stubborn fat makes movement easier, confidence higher, and momentum possible again. This works better than forcing yourself into workouts you dread.

Reclaim 3: Eat Like Blood Sugar Actually Matters

Blood sugar instability is one of the most overlooked drivers of midlife symptoms. Energy crashes, stubborn weight gain, anxiety, sleep disruption, and cravings often come back to glucose swings. This doesn’t mean extreme dieting or cutting entire food groups. It means eating protein consistently, prioritizing fiber, and not treating carbs like the enemy or the main character.

When blood sugar stabilizes, hormones calm down, inflammation decreases, and your body becomes far more cooperative. This is one of the fastest ways to feel better without doing more.

Reclaim 4: Stop Treating Stress Like a Character Flaw

Stress isn’t just emotional. It’s also physiological. Chronic stress alters cortisol, disrupts sleep, worsens insulin resistance, and accelerates aging. If you feel wired but exhausted, anxious for no clear reason, or rest doesn’t actually restore you, your nervous system is asking for help. Supporting stress doesn’t mean meditating for an hour or quitting your life. It means small, consistent signals of safety that your brain will recognize: breathing, sleep support, nutrient repletion, and realistic expectations. This is where habit stacking and functional medicine overlap beautifully.

Reclaim 5: Let “Good Enough” Be the Goal

Perfection is not a health strategy; it’s a recipe for failure. This is so true especially in midlife. The women who make the most progress aren’t the ones who do everything right. They’re the ones who do a few things consistently and adjust as their body gives feedback. When you stop fighting the signals and start listening, change becomes possible again. That’s why these simple health goals for 2026 are a better strategy.

If you’re tired of chasing symptoms, feeling stuck, or wondering why what used to work suddenly doesn’t, this is your sign to do things differently. If you’re ready to get answers, build a plan that makes sense for your body, and reclaim your energy, confidence, and health, reach out.

Call the Diabetes & Wellness Clinic at (402) 379-9600. We’ll get to work without gimmicks, guilt, or guesswork.

Until next time,
